New Age Carpentry and Joinery was established in 1996 by the owner and founder, Scott Broadhurst in the Perth Hills, an area in Western Australia which is known for the natural beauty of its landscape, strong community spirit, relaxed lifestyle and commitment to protecting the environment.
Scott has had 20 years experience working in the building industry as a carpenter. He has been based in Perth for most of this time, although he also spent a year in a Joinery workshop in the UK before heading off to explore Europe and North and South America.
His knowledge of the Perth metropolitan area is extensive; he has worked as a carpenter from Joondalup to Mandurah and is continually pointing out places and areas where he has built a pergola or transformed a client’s backyard.
In addition to establishing his business, Scott has had a wide variety of professional experience as a sub-contractor as well as working for large, national building companies. This has given him the opportunity to collaborate with experienced builders and to establish contacts with tradespeople from many different fields in the Perth area.
The name of the company, New Age Carpentry and Joinery is derived from Scott’s commitment to innovative construction and design and, more importantly, his dedication to the use of affordable, sustainable materials. His ecological approach seeks to reduce your carbon footprint while you upgrade through the use of sustainable materials and ecologically aware design techniques such as:
- The use of plantation pine
- Quick-growth as opposed to Old-growth timbers
- Passive solar design techniques
- Polycarbonate sheeting with UV protection
- Incorporating water tanks and water displacement
